Construction Complete on 70 New Assisted Living Apartments and a Chapel

Arlington Heights, Ill. – February 2, 2018 – Yesterday, The Moorings of Arlington Heights, a Presbyterian Homes community, celebrated the grand opening of The Highlands, its new assisted living building. The $70M expansion project, which broke ground in June 2016, includes the construction of 70 new assisted living apartments, as well the Odean Johnson chapel/fellowship hall, a brand-new addition to The Moorings campus. Twenty additional assisted living/memory support apartments are slated for completion next year. The senior living community held several grand opening celebrations yesterday. The first was a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by local dignitaries, members of the organization’s own Board of Directors, upper-level management, and community residents and staff. Other grand opening events included a dedicated blessing of the new chapel, an exclusive resident-only tour, and a party for the wider professional community, who were invited to preview the state-of-the-art assisted living building before it officially opens on Monday, February 5.

The second phase of the expansion project, 20 more assisted living/memory support apartments, begins this spring. Prior to demolition of the existing building, local first response teams will conduct practice exercises in it, and Habitat for Humanity will take FF&E for future projects.

“The new construction is a significant investment in The Moorings,” said Todd Swortzel, president and chief executive officer, Presbyterian Homes. “It demonstrates our commitment to the older adults of Arlington Heights, who we plan on serving for generations to come.”
